From cup fan to paper cup

The most important part of a paper cup is the cup fan. The body of a paper cup is formed by surrounding a circle with cup fan. It can be said that cup fan almost make up the entire paper cup, and the material of cup fan also determines the quality of the paper cup. Qualified cup fan must be made of food-grade wood pulp paper. It has good flexibility and water absorption, and can provide a certain degree of stiffness and structural support for the paper cup. At the same time, in order to make the paper cup have waterproof and oil-proof functions, a PE film is usually coated on one or both sides of the cup fan. The PE film has good barrier properties and can prevent liquids from penetrating the paper cup, so that the paper cup can hold various beverages.


So how are cup fan formed into paper cups?

First of all, we will laminate the base paper that needs to be made into cup fan. This step requires the use of a laminating machine. The rolled base paper is placed in the laminating machine. The machine unfolds the base paper roll while laminating the unfolded part. There are single-sided laminating and double-sided laminating, which depends on cost and the use of paper cups.

Secondly, we need to print on the laminated base paper. Usually, environmentally friendly inks such as water-based inks, ultraviolet curing inks, and vegetable oil inks are used to print various patterns, texts, etc., to meet the product's appearance design and brand promotion needs. Yes, paper cups can be printed before they are formed, but they can also be printed by methods such as silk screen printing and UV heat transfer printing after they are formed.

 

After printing is completed, we can perform die cutting. Because printing is carried out on a complete base paper, and the size of the base paper is very large, the cup fan patterns printed on the base paper are all continuously repeated. In this step of die cutting, we cut the entire base paper into groups of cup fan, which can be four in a group or eight in a group and so on. Later, we further cut out each individual cup fan.

Next, we will form the cup fan. Through a forming machine, the cup fan is fixed into the shape of a cup body, and then a cup mouth and a cup bottom are installed. With an automatic machine, this process is very fast, and the formed paper cups will be neatly stacked together for final packaging.
